Near the headwaters of the Ashley River "Oakbrook" is one of the most scenic and historic places in Dorchester County. Visitors - and those of us who are fortunate to live here enjoy modern urban living surrounded by natural beauty and the reminders of the rich history of the area. Westvaco Development Corporation launched one of the first planned communities in suburban Charleston in 1968; it would come to be known as "Oakbrook." They would later develop "Crowfield Plantation" in nearby Goose Creek. Westvaco (formerly Virginia Pulp and Paper and now Mead/ Westvaco) a local and regional timber and paper products company is again developing large tracts of land around Summerville. Oakbrook is rich in history. Click on the link above to read more about it.
